In this 4-part beginner drawing series, we'll cover drawing building blocks relevant to both illustration and realistic representation.\n\nArtist and Church of Art founder, Erika Halperin, will start each week's session by guiding the group through a discussion of selected artworks with a particular focus on the topic of that week's lesson. She will then guide the group through a series of hands-on drawing exercises to begin learning and practicing the concepts covered.\n\nEach week will end with time spent drawing during which time Erika will work with each student individually to answer questions and provide guidance. DESCRIPTION:2-hour blocks of unstructured studio time for you to paint, draw, collage, enjoy our collection of art books with a cup of hot tea or coffee (provided), or just hang out and chat in a warm, inviting space! Friend date? Romantic date? Date with yourself? Church of Art studio is that (alcohol-free) third space to hang out either on your own or to meet up with others.\nNo previous art experience is necessary. If you would like some guidance, Erika will be in the studio and available to suggest activities based on your interests and skill level. If you're coming on your own and would like some company, Erika will happily spend time drawing, painting, or collaging with you. If you already know what you want to do, or want to be left alone to read or write or make art in peace (or with a headset on), that's ok, too!\nAll materials and supplies included to make a collage, sketch with charcoal or graphite sticks, or play around with gouache or watercolor paints!\nCome and go as you like during the two hour block.\nNon-alcoholic beverages and snacks are included.\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: EVENT TO BE RESCHEDULED FOR LATER DATE\n\nJoin us for collaborative neurographics: a mindfulness-based creative activity providing therapeutic mental relaxation through intuitive mark-making on a grand scale.\n\nNeurographic art is a relatively new form of focused, intentional mark-making using curved bold lines, vibrant colors and calming patterns. Physician and neurographics practitioner Ruben Halperin, M.D., will be our guide, co-facilitating this workshop with his wife, artist Erika Halperin.\n\nGroup art-making teaches us to let go of perfection and expectation through shared creative exploration while working large encourages greater freedom of expression.\n\nFor this mindfulness-based collaborative art activity, we will cover the studio tables with rolls of paper and acrylic paint pens in a variety of sizes and colors. Small groups of 3-6 participants will move around each table filling the paper with sweeping, colorful doodles to the sounds of calming music.\n\nThe giant size of our doodling surface allows for whole-arm movements which signal our brains to move out fight-or-flight mode and into a state of mental relaxation and improved focus.\n\nImmerse yourself in this beneficial form of meditative doodling and experience the mood-boosting effect of creativity coupled with community gathering.\n\nWhat We’ll Use:\nPaper and acrylic markers. DESCRIPTION:\n\nSurrealist artists of the early 20th century adapted the collaborative word game “Exquisite Corpses” to push the boundaries of realism and create some wild and wacky visual art.
