Surrealist artists of the early 20th century adapted the game “Exquisite Corpses” as a means of bypassing realism and logic in favor of chance and collaboration. Based on a word-based parlor game, each contribution to the whole is made blind to the parts that came before so that the full creation isn’t revealed until the very end. Our version will be visual-art based and made with a combination of collage, dry media and watercolors.
Interesting fact: While often shown as a human-like form with folds between the head, torso, legs, and feet, the name “Exquisite Corpses” actually came from one of the game’s original word versions that delivered the delightfully bizarre phrase: “The exquisite corpse will drink the new wine.”
