Rite of Reflection: Drawing with Charcoal

Drawing with charcoal is both fun and messy! Add the curves and reflections of metal pitchers and glass vases filled with water and you’ve got an artistically curious person’s dream!
Join us for a few hours of creative play as artist and Church of Art founder, Erika Halperin, instructs the group on charcoal drawing techniques with a specific focus on metals, glass, and water.
We will first look at a variety of other artists’ charcoal drawings to get a sense of what’s possible. Then Erika will guide the group through a series of hands-on mark-making techniques using different types of charcoal.
Finally, the group will be unleashed on a mix of metal and glass still-life objects with Erika providing individualized guidance and feedback. No drawing skills are required to enjoy and learn from this workshop.
